Procrastination. Virtue or Flaw?

Procrastination benefits the rash ones but befalls the thinker.

"When you are rash
Stop to think
It'll save you from regrets"

We often hear off people told to think before acting. It seems to be a good quality to ponder carefully before decisions are made.

Recently, I realised the negative effect of this quality. It applies to the over-thinkers. We become vexed when we are unable to decide after weighing our choices. To put it simply, we don't know what we want. Almost every choice possess some benefits but also carries along pitfalls. As the matter remains unresolved for a period of donkey years, frustration builds up with our inability to make swift decisions.

"If you think
Stop to act
live with it
And be convinced to accept"

Actually the word "procrastination" has a negative notation. I can't think of the word to describe the same meaning in a positive light. Please enlighten if it exists in your vocab.

Comments:
Procrastinate by modern terminology connotes negativity.

WAIT may be a more positive word - see Psalm 27:14.

Sometimes waiting seems to be a better alternative than to cheong all the way.

Paradoxically, I'm not one that subscribe to this view. But I know some sisters really do.

In your context.

To mull or contemplate would be the ideal word.

Basically you should not even be using the word procrastinate.

It means to put off or to drag your heels. When you procrestinate, you are NOT thinking. In short, you are just being lazy.

hence the notion of,

Procrastination benefits the rash ones but befalls the thinker.

is basically crap, because it does not benefit anyone to be lazy.

no offence, but from what i have observed, your entries tend to reflect that you put more effort in trying to "sound good" by using ermmm
a "plethora" of big words and unnecessary ermmm "expletives?" and "superlatives" (sorry i had to quote you guys ha ha) then to really feel or sometimes even think about what you are writing.

just a thought: Your blog is a medium where you guys communicate. So write like you are talking to your spouse. Not like you are in some advanced english literature class.

You do not have to impress anyone.

cheers

To the anonymous "old friend" that just lambasted at my wife's post,

Well, thanks for your thoughts on procrastination, Mr/Ms. English Teacher! But it sure look like U don't know what the hell is going on!

Though I'm glad that the posts "sounded good" to you but heck, we're certainly not writing here to impress anyone. Like we care? Oh! Are we going to get a job at Oxford for using uncommon English?

Writing is a freedom of expression that should be respected. If our posts irk you, go read Chinese instead.

Anyway, short of saying "go fly kite" to whatever you've written, thanks for your comments. We appreciate very much.

Cheers, guan

sorry if i offended you.

please do not take it seriously.

like you said, i was just expressing my thoughts.

i do not like flying kites.

1'd rather fly my plane :)

see you later alligator.

When we post a thought or comment that we live to regret later on, that's a sign of rashness...

Procrastination should never be promoted. It can befall anyone - I for one succumbs to it more often than I like but then there shouldn't be any reasons in condoning it.

Read somewhere (a book by a Christian writer) that Procrastination is reckoned a thorn (or something likened to that effect). So it cannot be something desirable, let alone a virtue.

As for annoymous, it's one thing to be rash and another to be brash...

Touche!

Thanks for understanding our psyche that we crave desperately for intellectuals like you to understand what we are writing.

This blog was never meant to be a tool for impressing others. It only pen down our thoughts.. something which you probably do not know us well enough to understand what our lives are going through..you must really be our long lost old friend!

Dear Lim Yong,

Me and ad were just talking and it dawned upon us that you and jenny should really express your thoughts by writing blogs!

Come on, let us pry into your lives a bit. I'm sure your site would be the best channel for us to know you more - from 90% to 100%!!!:))

Don't procrastinate further

Haha... 90% is good enough... To know a person 100%, through and through seems too frightening a prospect.

Enjoy your trip.
